Hidcote

Hidcote is one of England’s most influential Arts and Crafts gardens. Begun in 1907 by the American horticulturalist Lawrence Johnston, the garden’s heyday was in the 1930s. Famous for its rare trees and shrubs, outstanding herbaceous borders and unusual plants from all over the world, it is a key tourist destination for visitors to the Cotswolds.

Buffalo Design created all signage and interpretation for the 2011 season. The brief was to 'wow' visitors on the approach to the property and then introduce Lawrence Johnston with gently guiding interpretation within the grounds.

Bespoke A-Frames were crafted and old reclaimed garden tools where affixed to the frame to give sense of place and time. Directional signage within the garden, was based on traditional copper plant identification labels that where produced larger than life to add a sense of scale to the experience.

Directional signage to the Plant Centre was based on traditional seed packaging but 20 times the usual size!
